MegaUpload, a major content sharing website might completely be erased by FBI. MegaUpload was brought down by the US government on different federal crime counts, including copyright infringement, conspiracy to commit money laundering, criminal copyright infringement and some others. Kim Dotcom, the owner of the site was also arrested from his mansion in New Zealand and is still in jail, awaiting trial.
New reports reveal that MegaUpload might completely by erased by Thursday. This means that those people who have been using the website for legitimate purposes which includes backing their business files, will be in great jeopardy. According to the Associated Press, a letter filed past Friday in the whole piracy case of MegaUpload, the United States Attorney Office revealed that Cogent Communications Group and Carpathia Hosting, two companies whichMegaUpload recruited to store data, might start deleting the data from Thursday.
Assets of the company have been seized by the United States government, whereas the respective bank accounts have also been frozen. This meansMegaUpload is not equipped to pay companies such as Cogent and Carpathia for the services they rendered.
Megaupload was taken down by the United States government on the 19th of January, while its workers and associated, which the government could track down, were taken into custody and were charged against crimes linked to online piracy. The MegaUpload case is the biggest cases of online copyright infringement taken on by the United States government.
